This past weekend I went for an amazing weekend away with Sam to Dartmoor in Devon. We stayed in a secluded tent called The Nest at Leewood. It absolutely blew my little mind. It made you feel like you were either in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones (although I’m just guessing from photos because I haven’t actually watched many yet). They have an outdoor kitchen but also a huge fire pit space.
On the Saturday, Sam basically MacGuyver-RayMears-BearGrylls’d us an amazing hand-made spit roaster. Just look how amazing the engineering of it is! Wowser. So we cooked a lovely chunk-o-beef slowly over the fire for a good 5 or so hours. It was amazing! I’m drooling just thinking about it now.
With no phone signal, internet or anything modern, they have done an amazing job creating this space, and I 100% want to go back again for another long weekend!
We found a cloak. It had to be worn!
Cute little window from the kitchen.
The outhouse. (There is a normal loo and shower up at the main Leewood Cottage).
Ahhhh rugged manliness!
The amazing spiderweb-like back of the tent.
Sam also made us a basting brush. GENIUS!
OMG garlic fired parsnips. DIVINE!
Roadtrip to Burgh Island. We didn’t have any cash to go explore the island, which was a shame.
On the moors on the drive back home.
We went to explore Wooky Hole Cave. It was pretty cool, with a scary bit where you walk over a metal bridge. My terrible vertigo did NOT have a good time with that.
Cave-aged cheese (although it’s not from Cheddar) was so tasty.
Really lovely old arcade machines.
